GTA 6 leak didn’t affect its development, but it did hit Rockstar Games’ minds hard

Among the various scandals that hit the video game industry during 2022, undoubtedly the GTA 6 leak was the one that caused the most noise. Dozens of videos belonging to an early version have flooded the internet, confirming multiple details such as the setting of Vice City. Although Rockstar Games pointed out that the shameful fact did not harm its development, the study was seriously affected in terms of mood.

Leaking the details of a game before an official presentation is one of the worst situations that can happen to a development studio. The case of Rockstar Games has a greater dimension because, for decades, they have distinguished themselves by keeping their future projects secret. Unfortunately, a rather gifted hacker has crossed paths with GTA 6.

During the presentation of its quarterly results, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive (the company that owns Rockstar Games), recalled that the leak of GTA 6 did not alter its development or strategy at the business level (via IGN). That is, the title will not suffer any delays, at least not caused by the controversial hack.

However, the above does not mean that Rockstar Games has moved on quickly. Emotionally, the study has been pretty impacted by the GTA 6 leaks. And of course, that doesn’t get resolved overnight.

“We take leaks very seriously and they disappoint us all. It’s really frustrating and boring for the team. However, in commercial matters, we are not concerned. But from a personal and emotional point of view, our teams are affected.”

Strauss Zelnick.

Unfortunately, the GTA 6 gameplay videos released at that time were criticized by a good number of ignoramuses who are completely unaware of the video game development process. They criticized its visual quality, character movements, and in general that the title was not yet in a decent state. What they didn’t know was that most of the visual details come to fruition in the later stages.

Rockstar Games was quick to say that the hardware was an early release. “Recently, we experienced a network intrusion whereby an unauthorized third party illegally accessed and downloaded sensitive information from our systems, including very early development material for the upcoming Grand Theft Auto,” they said. Additionally, they expressed their disappointment with what happened, which matches what the director of Take-Two expressed.

“We are extremely disappointed that the details of our next game have been shared with you in this way. Our work on the next Grand Theft Auto will continue as planned, and we remain more committed than ever to delivering to you, our players. , an experience that truly exceeds your expectations. We will give you more information soon and of course we will present this new game to you when it is ready. Thank you all for your support in this situation.”

Additionally, several well-known video game studios and developers have come to the defense of Rockstar Games, showing what some of their works looked like at the same stage. Without a doubt, a great gesture of solidarity with a team that, until that date, was completely unaware of the consequences of a leak.

At the moment it is still unknown when the official presentation of GTA 6 will take place. Of course, the rumors point to that same year, although the launch would wait until 2024 or 2025.
